List of single courses offered:
1- Introduction to Business Management: 3 cr.
How organizations operate, the context in which they operate, and the factors which determine how managers can operate more effectively. Topics include the management function; the genesis of modern management; the development of management theory; the context in which managers operate; and managing organizations.
2- Human Resource Management: 3 cr.
Examines the role of the human resource manager in both public and private sector organizations. Topics include personnel planning, selection, appraisal, training and development, compensation, and international aspects.
3- Introduction to Microeconomics: 3 cr.
This course emphasizes the behavior of individual consumers and business firms, problems of international trade and finance, the distribution of income, policies for eliminating poverty and discrimination, the problems of environmental pollution, and the impact of different market structures upon economic activity.
4- Principles of Accounting I: 3 cr.
The course provides balanced coverage of the mechanics, measurement theory, and economic context of financial accounting. It strikes a balance between a planner’s and a user’s orientation, emphasizing that students must understand both how transactions lead to financial statements (planner’s orientation) as well as how one can infer transactions given a set of financial statements (user’s orientation). It relies on current real-world examples taken from the popular business press. First part of the course introduces students to the financial accounting environment, financial statements, the accounting cycle, and the theoretical framework of accounting measurement. Second part of the course covers the elements of financial statements, emphasizing mechanics, measurement theory, and the economic environment.
5- Introduction to Business Statistics: 3 cr.
Introductory course in probabilities and statistical concepts including descriptive statistics, set-theoretic development of probability, the properties of discrete and continuous random variables, sampling theory, estimation, hypothesis testing, regression, decision theory and the application of these concepts to problem solving in business and management.
6-Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Industry:3 cr.
The course constitutes the first step to become a hospitality student. It offers an overview of one of the largest industries in the world. The first step is to dispel the myth that hospitality management is only hotels and restaurants....it’s also airlines, cruises, catering, and event planning (just to name few).You are not only getting better understanding of hospitality but gaining useful skills.
7- Marketing Theory and Principles: 3 cr.
An introduction to the concepts and principles of marketing, including the marketing of service and nonprofits organizations. Provides an overview of all the concepts in marketing including relationship marketing, product development, pricing, promotion, marketing research, consumer behavior, international marketing, distribution, and internal marketing to employees
8- Business Ethics: 3 cr.
Beside the relationship of business ethics and social responsibility in both domestic and global settings, this course is also a study of ethical and moral considerations of corporate conduct, social responsibilities, policies, and strategies are explored. Emphasis is on the definition, scope, application, and analysis of ethical values as they relate to issues of public consequence in both the domestic and global environments. Special attention will be given to moral problems such as the ethics of hiring and firing, bribery, and professional responsibility to society.
9-small business management:3cr
This course helps students gain an understanding of the business/marketing principles necessary to start and operate a business. Students will first learn basic economic principles related to business ownership. They will identify and assess common traits and skills found in entrepreneurs, explore business opportunities, and compare the risks and rewards of owning a business. The primary focus of the course is to help students understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, determining feasibility of an idea utilizing research, developing a plan to organize and promote the business and its products/services, and finally, to understand the capital required, the return on investment desired, and the potential for profit.
10- Introduction to Public Administration: 3 cr.
The course will examine the role of administration in the public sector. It will explore the various trends in public administrations, examine the problems in public organizations, and look at the different techniques of public management.
11- Business Finance: 3 cr.
Evaluating and funding projects within the firm. Time value of money, inflation, capital budgeting; risk and return in the financial markets, stocks, bonds, portfolios and diversifiable risk, market efficiency and the balance between debt and equity to fund the firm.
